about

On this day five years ago, Skywave Effect was released. Some context: at this point, I had never seen a live chip music performance. Heck, I'm not even sure if I had met face to face with anyone who was interested in chip music. The original release of this album was like the punctuation at the end of that part of my life: less than a month later I'd attend MAGFest for the first time, see my first live chiptune performances (with Note! being my very first), and lay the groundwork for the collaboration that became Marshall Art.

While I've learned, grown, and accomplished a lot as a hobbyist musician in the five short years since the album came out, these songs still hold a special significance for me: these were my among first attempts at writing original chip music, and my first attempt at something so ambitious as a full-length album.

So, in celebration of this fifth anniversary, I've remixed and remastered the original album from the stems I exported years ago, and compiled some alternate versions and a few incomplete demos that I've scavenged from backup discs from that time.

The real treats here, however, are the bonus remixes. AutoReMi-PK, Temp Sound Solutions, and my Marshall Art band-mate streifig have prepared their own interpretations of songs from the album. It's such an honor to have such great musicians tackle songs I came up with when I was really only cutting my teeth on songwriting.

Hope you enjoy this anniversary release!
